Credit Repair for Virginia Residents

From Richmond to Virginia Beach, we work with Virginia residents online. Here is what Virginia's credit picture looks like, what Virginia law gives you, and how we help.

100% online, wherever you live in Virginia. No office visits, nothing to mail.

Credit Phoenix is an online, nationwide credit repair company that works with Virginia residents. We review your reports from all three bureaus, challenge items that are inaccurate, unverifiable or outdated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and track every response. Virginia's Credit Services Businesses Act and federal law both give you three business days to cancel a credit repair contract.

What Virginia's credit numbers look like

Virginia sits above the national average on credit scores and files fewer credit reporting and debt collection complaints per person than the country as a whole. The source sits next to each figure.

Average FICO Score721 in September 2025 (22 of 51 incl. D.C.; 723 a year earlier; national average 713)Experian, average FICO Score by state
Complaints to the CFPB about credit reporting (2025)87,174 from Virginia residents, about 98.9 per 10,000 people (national rate 140.1 per 10,000)CFPB Consumer Complaint Database
Complaints to the CFPB about debt collection (2025)7,057 from Virginia residents, about 8.0 per 10,000 people (national rate 8.2 per 10,000)CFPB Consumer Complaint Database

None of this means your report is accurate. The Federal Trade Commission's own study found that about one in five consumers had an error on at least one credit report, and one in 20 had an error big enough to change the price of credit (FTC, 2013). The first step is always finding out what is on your reports.

Your rights under Virginia law

Federal law (the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Credit Repair Organizations Act) applies in every state. Here is what applies to you in Virginia.

Virginia lawWhat it means for youSource
Virginia Credit Services Businesses Act, Va. Code 59.1-335.1 and followingA credit repair contract must be in writing, dated and signed, with a full description of the services. How Credit Phoenix works with Virginia residents

  1. Free assessment. You book a call, we look at your situation and tell you honestly whether credit repair makes sense for you. If it does not, we say so.
  2. Review of all three reports. We go through Equifax, Experian and TransUnion line by line and flag items that look inaccurate, unverifiable or outdated.
  3. Challenges. We send the challenges, with the evidence, to the bureaus and to the companies that reported the items. Under the FCRA they generally have 30 days to investigate and answer.
  4. Tracking and next rounds. You see every response in your client portal. Items that come back verified get a closer look, and we tell you what we can and cannot challenge.

Everything happens online and by phone, so it works the same in Roanoke as it does in Norfolk. We serve clients nationwide, 100% online; we do not have a Virginia office.

Questions Virginia residents ask us

Is credit repair legal in Virginia?

Yes. Virginia regulates credit services businesses under the Virginia Credit Services Businesses Act, and federal law regulates them under the Credit Repair Organizations Act. Both laws exist to protect you: written contracts, a cancellation right, and no promises of results.

How long does credit repair take in Virginia?

There is no fixed answer and anyone who gives you one is guessing. The bureaus generally have 30 days to answer each challenge under the FCRA, and most files take more than one round. What we can promise is that you will see every response as it comes in.

Can I cancel if I change my mind?

Yes. Virginia law and federal law both give you until midnight of the third business day after signing to cancel. The agreement you sign must explain how to cancel.

What does it cost?

Our plans and what each one includes are on our pricing page. You can start with a free assessment, and there is no charge for it.
