Credit Phoenix is an online, nationwide credit repair company that works with Texas residents. We review your reports from all three bureaus, challenge items that are inaccurate, unverifiable or outdated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and track every response. Texas law lets you cancel a credit repair contract before midnight of the third day after the transaction, and a creditor generally has four years to sue on an old debt.
What Texas's credit numbers look like
Texas sits below the national average on credit scores and files more credit reporting and debt collection complaints per person than the country as a whole. The source sits next to each figure.
| Measure | Texas | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Average FICO Score | 692 in September 2025 (48 of 51 incl. D.C.; 695 a year earlier; national average 713) | Experian, average FICO Score by state |
| Complaints to the CFPB about credit reporting (2025) | 698,572 from Texas residents, about 223.3 per 10,000 people (national rate 140.1 per 10,000) | CFPB Consumer Complaint Database |
| Complaints to the CFPB about debt collection (2025) | 52,706 from Texas residents, about 16.8 per 10,000 people (national rate 8.2 per 10,000) | CFPB Consumer Complaint Database |
None of this means your report is accurate. The Federal Trade Commission's own study found that about one in five consumers had an error on at least one credit report, and one in 20 had an error big enough to change the price of credit (FTC, 2013). The first step is always finding out what is on your reports.
Your rights under Texas law
Federal law (the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Credit Repair Organizations Act) applies in every state. Here is what applies to you in Texas.
| Texas law | What it means for you | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Texas Credit Services Organizations Act, Tex. Fin. Code ch. 393 | A credit repair contract must be in writing, dated and signed, with the payment terms and a full description of the services, and an estimated time of no more than 180 days. It must tell you that you can cancel before midnight of the third day after the transaction. A consumer injured by a violation can recover at least the amount paid, plus attorney's fees and court costs. | Tex. Fin. Code 393.201, 393.202, 393.503 |
| Federal Credit Repair Organizations Act | Any credit repair contract must be in writing, you can cancel it until midnight of the third business day after signing, and a company may not charge you for a service before that service is fully performed. | 15 U.S.C. 1679b, 1679e |
| Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act | A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive or misleading statement to collect a debt. Unless you agree otherwise, the law treats the hours after 8 a.m. and before 9 p.m. your local time as the convenient ones for contacting you, and collection activity cannot overshadow your right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the first notice. | 15 U.S.C. 1692c, 1692e, 1692g |
| Statute of limitations on debt, Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code 16.004 | A creditor generally has four years to sue on a contract, which covers most credit cards and loans. An old debt can still appear on your report for up to seven years, and a lawsuit filed after the deadline can be defended, but only if you respond. | Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code 16.004 |
How Credit Phoenix works with Texas residents
- Free assessment. You book a call, we look at your situation and tell you honestly whether credit repair makes sense for you. If it does not, we say so.
- Review of all three reports. We go through Equifax, Experian and TransUnion line by line and flag items that look inaccurate, unverifiable or outdated.
- Challenges. We send the challenges, with the evidence, to the bureaus and to the companies that reported the items. Under the FCRA they generally have 30 days to investigate and answer.
- Tracking and next rounds. You see every response in your client portal. Items that come back verified get a closer look, and we tell you what we can and cannot challenge.
Everything happens online and by phone, so it works the same in Dallas as it does in San Antonio. We serve clients nationwide, 100% online; we do not have a Texas office.

Questions Texas residents ask us
Is credit repair legal in Texas?
Yes. Texas regulates credit services organizations under Chapter 393 of the Finance Code, and federal law regulates them under the Credit Repair Organizations Act. Both laws exist to protect you: written contracts, a cancellation right, and no promises of results.
How long does credit repair take in Texas?
There is no fixed answer and anyone who gives you one is guessing. The bureaus generally have 30 days to answer each challenge under the FCRA, and most files take more than one round. What we can promise is that you will see every response as it comes in.
Can I cancel if I change my mind?
Yes. Texas law lets you cancel before midnight of the third day after the transaction, and federal law gives you three business days. The agreement you sign must explain how to cancel.
What does it cost?
Our plans and what each one includes are on our pricing page. You can start with a free assessment, and there is no charge for it.
